DECO designed and built a bespoke outrunner water jet cleaning frame for the removal of marine growth on monopiles.

 

Project scope

DECO developed a cleaning application for marine growth removal of 35 monopiles on the Westermost Rough offshore wind farm in the British North Sea.

GeoSea awarded DECO the contract to design and implement a bespoke cleaning tool. DECO’s robotic cleaning frame is an outrunner type. The hydraulically driven robot performs a full cleaning operation of the external pile surface from the top to 10m below. Surface cleanliness required: ISO standard 8501-4:2006 WA1. As surface cleanliness of the pile is critical for effective grouting, all loose debris and marine growth needs to be removed quickly and effectively to prevent any costly grout removal after installation.

The cleaning robot lands on top of the pile, a series of high pressure water jets rotate around the pile, cleaning the outer surface. DECO deploys the cleaning robot from jack-up vessel ‘Innovation’.
